Tools that stay on your device
docandimage started from a simple annoyance: most free online tools make you upload your files to a stranger's server just to remove a background or merge a PDF.
How this is different
Every tool on this site runs as JavaScript inside your own browser tab. When you drop in a photo or a PDF, the processing — compressing, converting, merging, recognizing text — happens on your device using your device's own processing power. The file is never sent anywhere for us to store, scan, or lose.
The trade-off is honest: a few tools, like the background remover and the OCR tool, download a model or engine the first time you use them (a one-time cost, cached by your browser afterward). That download happens directly from the library's own hosting, not through our servers, and it never includes your file.
What's on the roadmap
New tools get added as they're built properly rather than rushed out thin. One honest limit worth flagging: the Unlock PDF tool removes print/copy/edit restrictions from PDFs that already open without a password, but it doesn't add or remove a real open-password — that needs proper encryption, which isn't implemented here. Document format conversions like PDF-to-Word are the current focus for what's next. You can see what's live right now on the homepage.
